My own personal struggle with depression and thoughts of ending it all began in early childhood, and continued well into my adult life. Tragically, the experience of my father ending his life reinforced my belief in the myth that that was the answer to all of my problems too. Following a devastating divorce, I soon found my problems went from bad to worse as a single, depressed, unemployed mother of three.
Finally, after years of suffering, including the pain of rheumatoid arthritis and numerous failed back surgeries, I was on my deathbed. Suddenly, the great turning point of my life arrived. A two-year period of being bedridden and deathly ill culminated in a profound Life After Life experience. Finding myself miraculously equipped with new, amazing heavenly answers, this was the transforming incident where I went from desperately wanting to die, to desperately wanting to help others live with hope and purpose.
Today, working full-time as a Certified Crisis Chaplain and the President and Founder of Stress and Grief Relief, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity, I have developed a life-changing, life-saving system that is getting extraordinary results. Countless once depressed and despondent people are living lives filled with hope and purpose. But now your help is urgently needed to continue this vital work.
Will you please join in this critical effort, become an instrument in God’s hands and pray about making a thoughtful contribution to help spread hope, save lives, and make a difference? With tremendous, heartfelt appreciation for your prayers and support, will you please make a tax deductible donation of any amount today:

hope & purpose
-Dr. Joyce Brown,
“The Hope Doctor”
Stress, anxiety, depression, and grief—these are all grave problems in and of themselves. But what makes it all so much worse is that, left untreated, any one of these complex conditions could easily lead to the most devastating, heart-breaking tragedy of them all. In fact, that is exactly what is happening over and over again, minute after minute, throughout the world. People from every background, and nearly every age are making the devastating decision to take their own lives. Consider some of the following statistics from the WHO (World Health Organization), and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention):
How much the suicide rate increased in the U.S. between 1999 and 2016.
How much time passes before there is another death by suicide in the world.
In the U.S., suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for those ages 10 to 24.
For those in the 10 to 24 age group living in the Rocky Mountains, suicide is the leading (#1) cause of death. For the rest of the world in this age group, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death. And suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. for all ages. While suicide continues to plague our world, the good news is…

Record Levels of Stress
According to a 2019 Gallup poll, Americans are now among the most stressed people in the world (tied for 4th). What’s more, worldwide, negative experiences matched those in 2017, which The New York Times reported as “the darkest year for humanity in more than a decade.”
An Epidemic of Anxiety
According to the American Psychological Association, the U.S. is in the midst of an anxiety epidemic. In 1980, only 4% of Americans suffered with an anxiety related mental disorder. That number today is 51%. “Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S.” according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA).
In the U.S., in 2018, 14 million people suffered the death of someone in their immediate family. Losing someone to suicide can be even more traumatic, and difficult to work through. Debilitating grief can also be caused by divorce (which can be especially difficult on children and teens), the loss of a pet, a job, a business, or a home. Sadly, the way people are often led to deal with grief can slow or even undermine the grieving process, leading to dangerous, destructive behaviors, prolonged grief and even depression. Known as complicated grief (CG), this affects up to 20% of grievers (2.8 million Americans in 2018).
Depression on the Rise
Depression is the number one cause of disability in the U.S. and worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In any given year, 1 in 10 adults in the U.S. is affected by depression.1 For teens, major depression increased 52% over the last decade.2 And for young adults (ages 18-25), major depression increased 63% over the same period.3 Depression is also the number one reason why someone dies of suicide.4
